Boise Rec Fest Internship January – July, 2010
Position Title: Recreation Coordinator Intern
Summary: Recreation Coordinator interns will play a critical role in Boise Rec Fest, a new large scale community-wide celebration and promotion of recreational activities available throughout Idaho. Boise Rec Fest will be in Ann Morrison Park on June 26-27, 2010. Festival attendees will experience Idaho recreation firsthand through a variety of classes, demos, exhibits, games, giveaways, contests and more. Live music, regional beers, Idaho wines, and local restaurants will also be featured. The festival is open to people of all ages and abilities and includes recreational activities from all seasons, indoors and out, motorized and human-powered.
A variety of recreational opportunities will be showcased in mini “villages” based on categories and themes, such as water sports, snow sports, field sports, hunting, fishing, cycling, Idaho travel, Idaho-made gear, children and more. Exhibitors, workshop instructors and activity leaders will come from a variety of sources, such as retailers, manufacturers, clubs, non-profits, guides, outfitters, government agencies, chambers of commerce, recreational attractions, educational institutions and more.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design recreation areas with a mix of exhibitors, workshops, and activities to provide attendees a full representation of the recreational opportunities that are available within each designated area.
- Recruit exhibitors, workshop instructors and activity leaders through a variety of phone calls, emails, on-site visits and mail.
- Encourage event promotion by exhibitors, workshop instructors, and activity leaders to attract attendees.
- Manage information, including lists, files, and schedules.
- Coordinate schedules and logistics with Exhibitor, Activity and Workshop Directors.
- Analyze and document event results, including number of attendees, photos, surveys and more.
Required Skills:
- Passion for recreation
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects
- Creativity and ability to think visually
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, MS Excel and Internet
Hours: Minimum of 15 hours per week with flexible schedule. Student needs to complete at least 50 hours per each credit earned if doing work for academic credit.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.

KC Mcivor is an undergraduate Recreation major at the University of Idaho. KC received a paid internship at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. KC's internship will begin January 6, 2010 and run through April 21, 2010 at the Fort Carson Outdoor Adventure Program Education. KC is a current member of the Idaho Recreation and Park Association (IRPA) and National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Some of his responsibilities will be:
- Administration work
- Operating the retail store
- Operating the rental store
- Operating the climbing wall
- Assist as an instructor for high and low angle ropes courses
- Trip leading and assist in instructional classes
