2009 IRPA CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEAKER ANNOUNCED
Conference will be held in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
September 13-16, 2009
We are very pleased to announce that the Key Note Speaker for the opening of this year’s conference will be an international speaker and
business consultant; Patrick McGaughey.
The 2009 Idaho Recreation and Parks Association Conference will have a fantastic start with a dynamic and energetic speaker at this year’s session.
The opening general session is scheduled for Monday morning, September 14th at 8:00 a.m. As most of us are keenly aware we will be facing tough
decisions in the year, and maybe year’s, ahead coupled with a continued and growing demand for parks and recreation services.
Patrick will help us bring this into perspective as his speech will focus on department performance in a depressed economy;
“High Performance in a Low Economy”. Patrick’s professional background includes thirty years in broadcasting and business
association management where his resume includes the rebuilding and financial success of two radio stations and three chambers of commerce.
Patrick McGaughey’s success came both in low economies and during high economic times and he will be the first to
tell us that his finest hours came during the toughest times. To build and maintain a high performance department while so many of our patrons are
both financially and emotionally depressed is a daunting task. This high performance presentation will go beyond a motivational speech by offering
a pragmatic understanding of the economic impacts and how to lead and manage teams to rise above the economy.
Patrick is the past president and CEO of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce during the 1990’s.
His national credentials as a faculty member for the United States Chamber of Commerce management institute at five major universities will provide
conference participants a dynamic presentation to begin our fall conference. Patrick is an Idaho resident and very much in tune with the problems
and opportunities that we will encounter over the next couple of years.
The 2009 IRPA Conference will begin on Sunday, September 13th with a variety of workshops and events.
The opening general session will begin Monday, September 14th at 8:00 a.m. The location for this year’s conference will be the
Coeur d’Alene Inn/Best Western. Mark your calendars!
GREETINGS FROM THE 2009 IRPA CONFERENCE COMMITTEE
Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
September 13-16, 2009
We wanted to give you all a brief update on next year’s conference in Coeur d’Alene. The Conference Committee is working on providing a
cost per person that will include registration, breakfasts, lunches and other events. We are also working at holding the registration costs to a minimum.
The Coeur d’Alene Inn/Best Western will be hosting the conference. Steve Anthony and Paula Austin have negotiated the per night costs down to $80.00.
The dates of the conference will be September 13th to September 16th, 2009. Granted, this is a lot of advance notice, I hope you have your
2009 calendars available and/or scroll ahead to ‘Save the Date’. September 13th is a Sunday and we are encouraging everyone to use that
as your travel day and/or to check in early; several fun and interesting events will be taking place on that day and you will be getting
more specific information on that days schedule as well as the overall conference schedule. We will begin the 2009 conference with the
general session on Monday morning and I believe you will find the general session to be quite upbeat. Dave Fair is chairing the conference programs
and he has been negotiating to secure our guest speakers for the opening and closing general sessions. More on those topics later.
We are also anticipating an increase in exhibitors, upwards of 30, at this conference. Bill Greenwood and Patrick Cancilla are collaborating
on this and the CDA Inn has great space and access for the exhibitors. One of our goals for this conference will be to create more (lots more)
interaction with the exhibitors combined with prizes and fun.
We would also like to get your elected and appointed officials on our conference ‘heads up’ list; so if you don’t mind I would appreciate
it if you would send me their names and e-mail addresses. We are discussing a ‘government’ session during the conference that could include
some of our state legislators who would be addressing our most current issues. Send that info to
dougeast@cdaid.org. If I missed anyone else out there that you think should be included
in the IRPA informational e-mail, please send me their e-mail addresses. I have all the
current IRPA members. It is not necessary to be a member to get the notices or to attend the conference.
After the first of the year you will be receiving a conference ‘heads up’ every other week regarding the 2009 conference.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a great Christmas and New Year. We will have our group photo aboard
one of the Lake Coeur d’Alene Cruise Ships like the accompanying picture. Northwest Playground will sponsor an IRPA cruise Monday
evening that will be loaded with fun, prizes and great company.
